Posted 01.05.2024

A North East software developer is set to create 20 new jobs this year after seeing turnover rise 31%.

Newcastle Helix-based Leighton specialises in building software products and optimising processes to ramp up digital transformation for its customers. Demand for its services has seen significant growth at the business, taking its turnover to £8.9m.

Now Leighton is looking to broaden its executive team and make investments, as part of a strategy that is set to create over 20 jobs in the next year. The new roles come on the back of the creation of a number of roles over the last 12 months, taking its workforce to 91 people, half of whom are based in the North East headquarters, within The Core building.

CEO James Bunting said: “It’s amazing to be able to talk about the next phase of our strategy. To be in such a strong financial position and able to be planning to take on 20 new colleagues this year is phenomenal, especially in the current climate.

“As a business that started in, and retains its headquarters, in the North East, it’s absolutely fantastic to continue to play our part in contributing to the regional economy and to be able to provide job opportunities to people not only in this region but also further afield. Our success is testament to our amazing team, their hard work and the results their work is delivering for our customers.

“We’ve been in business for over 32 years and our goal remains to work collaboratively with our customers to help them to make money, save money and solve problems within their business. By offering both end-to-end software development or placing our expert consultants within their businesses to deliver specific projects at pace, we can ensure the right approach to maximise efficiency, deliver value and most importantly ensure the right outcomes and solutions. It’s a really exciting time for the business and we’re really looking forward to the year ahead.”

As part of its recruitment drive Leighton is looking to bring on board several high-level positions including a chief consulting officer. Leighton also recently appointed Steve Morland as chief technology officer, who will be responsible for accelerating digital transformation for the company’s customers which include British Airways, Atom Bank, Equans and IAG Loyalty.

Mr Morland added: “Our industry moves incredibly fast. Technology changes and so do our customers’ needs in line with user requirements. This means it’s incredibly important that we continue to be agile and adapt to market demand.

“Our new structure will further enhance our ability to provide the right resources, skills and expertise as well as deliver to exceptionally high standards on time and in budget. Ultimately, we’ll be able to continue delivering value for our customers and continue to innovate within our own business to facilitate further growth. It’s a really exciting time to be part of Leighton.”
